Privacy Policy

Nakama is an app where learners and native speakers of Japanese connect anonymously for voice practice. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

What we collect

Account information: the email address from your Google or email sign-in. It is used to identify your account and to send service emails, and it is never shown to other users.
Profile information: your nickname, avatar, age group, JLPT level, native language, role (learner or native speaker), and interests.
Call and booking records: when a call or booking was made, started and ended, its duration, and who it was between. We use them to apply the daily free-minutes limit, to show your bookings and missed calls, and to handle reports.
Presence: whether you are currently online in the app, so other users can see if you are available.
Device and notification data: a push notification token for your device, used to send booking, reminder and call notifications.
Reports and blocks: information you submit when reporting or blocking another user.
Practice progress: your progress in lessons and quizzes inside the app.

Voice calls
Calls are live audio carried by our provider, LiveKit. We do not record or store call audio.

How we use your information
To run the app, match you with other users, send notifications and emails you need, enforce usage limits, keep the community safe, and improve the service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

We use these providers, who process data on our behalf:

Supabase (account and data storage)
LiveKit (voice calls)
Google (sign-in) and Google Firebase / Expo (push notifications)
Resend (emails)

Age requirement
Nakama is for people aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Your choices and deleting your data

Delete your account and data: email us at jpsahoo1609@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my account” from the email address you use in the app. We delete your account and personal data within 30 days.
Notifications: you can turn off push notifications in your phone’s settings at any time.
You can ask us for a copy or correction of your data by emailing us.

Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. After deletion we remove your personal data, except where we must keep records for safety or legal reasons.

Security
We use industry-standard providers and encrypted connections, but no system is completely secure.

Changes
We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do.
